[1] Goals
The aim of the general Graduate School is to produce English education experts who possess the capability to conduct independent research and are qualified to enter universities or research institutions related to English education.
The completion of a degree thesis is mandatory for Master's and Doctoral students.
[2] Eligibility for application
- 01Individuals who have or are expected to receive a bachelor's degree or master's degree related to the English education department.
- 02Individuals who have or are expected to receive a bachelor's degree or master's degree unrelated to the English education department. Note that English language and research skills may be evaluated during the interview process.
[3] Minimum requirement of course credits for completion: 36 credits (3 credits of Seminar, 3 credits of departmental common courses, 15 credits of Major courses)
[4] Qualification Exam
- 01Eligible candidates: From the semester when the required credits can be completed.
- 02When to apply: March in Spring semester, September in Fall semester (Note: Refer to the academic calendar for more information. The date of the qualification exam will be announced in the academic calendar each year.)

- Subjects covered in qualification exams: Questions are developed by a committee of three professors, including the student's supervisor, on topics related to the student's thesis field.
- 05Pass marks: A minimum score of 70 out of 100 points for each subject.
[5] Language (English) Exam
To obtain a Doctoral degree, candidates must satisfy the requirement of language proficiency assessment: Minimum of TOEIC 830, TOEFL 95(IBT), TEPS 670, or IELTS 6.5 .
[6] Thesis presentation
- 01Candidates are required to give a thesis presentation on their research prior to their defense.
- 02The content of a thesis defense presentation typically includes the title of the thesis, an overview of the research, and the timeline for completing the research.
- 03In the semester when the thesis presentation is held, the student must submit a presentation plan to the department chair.
- 04The thesis presentation is held in front of a panel of professors, including the student's supervisor, and is attended by graduate students in the Master's and Doctoral programs.
[7] The eligibility for thesis submission
- 01Completion of 36 credit hours for the Doctoral program in the course of study.
- 02Submission of official English proficiency test scores (TOEIC 830 or higher)
- 03After passing the qualification exams, the student must give a thesis presentation.

- After enrolling in the graduate program, the student must have at least two papers published in domestic or international academic journals related to their field of study, with no more than two authors, before graduating. (It is recommended that if a student submits a paper to a academic journal, they do so in collaboration with their supervisor) [The student must be the first or corresponding author for any papers that are published. - According to the department regulations meeting on April 14, 2020.]

- Domestic or international academic journals related to the field of study: Regular papers recognized by the National Research Foundation of Korea must be published in any of the following academic journals in Korean or English.
- 1. Academic journals listed in SCI, SCIE, SSCI, A&HCI, or SCOPUS.
- 2. Academic journals listed by the National Research Foundation of Korea (KCI, KCI candidate journals).
| (At least) One of the two or more papers must be published in a journal that is a candidate for or higher than the Korean Research Foundation's KCI listed journal. |
