College of Education > English Education Major

The English education major primarily focuses on continuing education or professional development for current Engilsh teachers and also provides a teaching course for students who wish to obtain an English teaching certification.

The English education major operates on a basic 5-semester system and requires the completion of 27 credits in the major as a requirement. Upon passing foreign language exams and comprehensive exams, one can obtain a teaching certification.

  • CEE00232 영어교과교육론 (Teaching English : Principles and Practice)

    The course teaches theories on English language learning and teaching and analyze and research English education in middle school settings

  • CEE00233 영어교과교재연구및지도법 (English Materials Development and Practice)

    This course teaches the basic theories of textbook development and apply them to analyze, research, and develop English textbooks for use in middle school education settings.

  • CEE00234 영어통사론과영어교육 (Teaching English Syntax)

    In this course, we explore various theories and claims about the structure of English and deepen the academic understanding of English structure built during the undergraduate course, and select related literature and papers to apply this understanding to the educational field and research and discuss them.

  • CEE00235 영문학활용영어교육 (English Education through Using English Literature)

    This course investigates methods to find ways to apply a variety of English materials, such as short stories, spoken stories, and dramas, through enjoyable and effective English education in middle and high school settings through teaching and learning activities.

  • CEE00236 영어교육의문학적접근 (Literary Approach in EFL)

    This course recognizes that understanding "grammar of thought," based on cognitive mapping, is more important than understanding "linguistic grammar" in English education, and research how "grammar of thought" education is possible in English education.

  • CEE00237 의사소통중심교수법 (Communicative Approach for English Education)

    Students learn the theory of a communicative approach to teaching and research methods for using a teaching approach centered on communication in school settings.

  • CEE00238 의미론과어휘지도 (Semantics and Vocabulary Teaching)

    This course covers methods for effectively learning and teaching English vocabulary, including meanings and usage, and meaning relationships from the perspective of lexical semantics.

  • CEE00239 영어음운론과영어교육 (Phonology and English Education)

    This course covers theories on the notation, characteristics, interrelationships, qualities, phonetic rules, and initial phonemes of English syllables, and discusses methods for effectively teaching English pronunciation in middle/high school.

  • CEE00240 사회언어학과영어교육 (Sociolinguistic Approach in English Teaching)

    This course examines the social factors in the cultural and societal context of language usage and research how to consider and reflect on such sociolinguistic elements in the process and methods of English education.

  • CEE00241 영어교육연구방법론 (Methods of Researching English Education)

    This is a course that teaches how to prepare a major thesis. It teaches how to choose a research topic, how to prepare materials, and how to write a thesis through practice during the degree program.

    This is a process of seeking ways to effectively overcome cultural differences between Korean and English-speaking cultures that occur during the process of communicating in English on essential cultural topics in actual language use situations.

    The course will mainly focus on research and discussion on the three basic mental processes of psycholinguistics - understanding language, generating language, and acquiring these two skills - with a particular focus on the cognitive interaction that language structure has.

    This course covers the evaluation methods and tools for English listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are reliable, valid, and effective in producing desirable effects.

  • CEE00245 코퍼스언어학과영어교육(Corpus Linguistics and English Education)

    This course is about corpus linguistics, which is the systematic organization of English vocabulary into units that are used in everyday life. The course discusses corpus linguistics in relation to English education, and teaches practical methods for acquiring useful language and applying it to English education.

    This course aims to study the principles and methods of English teaching and learning required in the field, and to design lessons accordingly.
